Dog training isn’t all about our dogs, it’s about us too! Dogs are meant to add joy to our lives, but so often, they add stress instead. Like most relationship issues, this is usually due to communication misunderstandings and missteps between us and our canine best friends.

If we are lucky, our dogs will be with us for a long time. Beginning with choosing the right puppy or dog for our lifestyles, to bringing them home. We want to provide the best possible care for them. Just like we invest in preventative health care, investing in choosing the right dog, and training can prevent a lifetime of unnecessary issues. Yet these are both important and often overlooked.

By starting training as soon as possible, whether you have welcomed an older dog or a young puppy into your home, many serious behaviour issues can be avoided. You can develop an understanding of how your dog learns so that you can confidently teach them through any issues you may come across throughout the rest of their lives.

How our Services work

Kitz & Canine focuses on helping our clients find the right pup for their families, the very fun yet sometimes difficult puppy stage, integrating your new furry family member into your home, and fearful dogs who need extra understanding, patience and care. Can’t find what you are looking for? Contact us and we will see if we can assist you. If we can’t, we will put you in touch with a trusted colleague that can.

Not every dog can be exactly as we want or hope for them to be. We must look at the dog in front of us, know their limits and help them be the best they can be! The first step is to book an initial consultation. This consultation will allow you to get to know us and learn how we can help you and your dog. We will discuss what you are looking for to get you started on training, to suit your specific situation. This will also help the trainer to assess your dog and their behaviour.

An initial consultation can run anywhere from 30 minutes to 1.5 hours and is held in the comfort of your home (in Winnipeg and surrounding areas), where you and your dog are most comfortable.

**Phone and virtual consultations are also an option if in person is not possible.

At the end of our initial consultation together, we will have an overall picture of your needs and will discuss with you what we recommend moving forward.

An initial consultation fee of $125 +GST will be required at time of booking. This fee will be included in the investment of our services or however we choose to move forward.

Coaching

What is different about In-home private coaching?

During private lessons you will receive 100% of the trainer’s attention. Group training classes are not always the answer when you work shift work, live out of town, or your dog has a more problematic behavioural issue. Each private coaching program is client-focused and driven. We will teach, guide and educate you. Your dog can learn behaviours in the actual environment in which they will be expected to perform them, making the learning quicker, the behaviour more reliable, and you and your visitors much happier!

Our private coaching sessions go above and beyond teaching your dog basic training cues. This provides you with a strong foundation of understanding what motivates your dog to do the things they do.

Group Classes

Are you happy with your dog’s behaviour in your home but would love to see improvement in more distracting situations? Group classes allow you to learn and practice skills around distractions in a controlled environment while encouraging you to be consistent about training during the course period.

We also offer a variety of Topics Classes for those looking to have a little fun with their dogs or get help with that one issue you just can’t seem to work through on your own.

Dog Walking & Drop In Visits

With our busy lives, It can be hard to find time to walk our dogs as much as we would like. Leave that to us! We come to you and take your dog on a private walk. Whether your pups are seniors and enjoy a more leisurely stroll, or if they are young and energetic, we will provide what they need!
