Services

Welcome to the first step towards an easier, more enjoyable life with your dog!

Dog training isn’t all about our dogs, it’s about us too! Dogs are meant to add joy to our lives, but so often, they add stress instead. Like most relationship issues, this is usually due to communication misunderstandings and missteps between us and our canine best friends.

If we are lucky, our dogs will be with us for a long time. When we first bring them home, we want to provide the best possible care for them. Just like we invest in preventative health care, investing in training can prevent a lifetime of unnecessary issues. Yet this important part of a dog’s life is often overlooked.

By starting training as soon as possible, whether you have welcomed an older dog or a young puppy into your home, many serious behaviour issues can be avoided. You can develop an understanding of how your dog learns so that you can confidently teach them through any issues you may come across throughout the rest of their lives.

A well-mannered dog can not only save you money on vet bills and behavioural training, but they are a lot more fun to live with. Training with Kitz & Canine can help you gain a better understanding of each other and build a strong relationship, which is priceless!

How our Services work

Kitz & Canine offers a wide variety of programs, group and topics classes to fit your training needs. From puppy, to basic training as well as specific behaviour issues, we are here to help! Can’t find what you are looking for? Contact us and we will see if we can assist you. If we can’t, we will put you in touch with a trusted colleague that can.

Programs are different than single sessions or packages. Have you ever done a 2 or 3 session package with a trainer and at the end of it you felt like you had just begun to scratch the surface of the issue you needed help with? Programs are tailored to provide results in place of a specific number of sessions. Not every dog can be exactly as we want or hope for them to be. We must look at the dog in front of us, know their limits and help them be the best they can be! This is why in our program descriptions you will see (approximate) beside the number of sessions listed. As all dogs and their every day lives differ, we cannot know for sure how many sessions it will take to get the end result we are looking for. We do not want to limit you or ourselves.
The first step is to book an initial consultation. This consultation will allow you to get to know us and learn how we can help you and your dog. We will discuss what you are looking for to get you started on training, to suit your specific situation. This will also help the trainer to assess your dog and their behaviour.

An initial consultation can run anywhere from 30 minutes to 1.5 hours and is held in the comfort of your home (in Winnipeg and surrounding areas), where your dog is most comfortable, and where they may be displaying any unwanted behaviours.

**Phone and virtual consultations are also an option if in person is not possible.

At the end of our initial consultation together, we will have an overall picture of your needs and will discuss with you what we recommend as the best program for you and your dog to begin our training adventure!

An initial consultation fee of $100 will be required at time of booking. This fee will be included in the investment of one of our programs.

To get started working with us, please contact us at info@kitzandcanine.ca to book your consultation. The $100 fee must be paid to secure your spot.

Service Options

Day Training

Struggling to find time to train your dog? Then day training is for you!  We offer convenience, and customized solutions for busy lives. We will work with your dog two or three times each week for your chosen program. All while you are at work! We will schedule weekly coaching sessions to show you what your dog has learned and to transfer the training to you! Each program also includes a wrap up session and follow up coaching sessions.

There are day training program options to suit all of your needs!

We will also provide progress reports after each training session. This will tell you what your dog has learned, what we’ll work on in the next session, and how you can help to maintain the training we’re doing.

Coaching

What is different about In-home private coaching?

During private lessons you will receive 100% of the trainer’s attention. Group training classes are not always the answer when you work shift work, live out of town, or your dog has a more problematic behavioural issue. Each private coaching program is client focused and driven. We will teach, guide and educate you. Your dog will be learning behaviours in the actual environment in which they will be expected to perform them, making the learning quicker, the behaviour more reliable, and you and your visitors much happier!

Our private coaching sessions go above and beyond teaching your dog basic training cues. This provides you with a strong foundation of understanding what motivates your dog to do the things they do.

Virtual Coaching

In person is the best coaching option to solve behavioural issues that you experience with your dog. What you may not know is this can be done successfully by distance learning via a web-based video conferencing tool.

Successful dog training has a LOT to do with training the guardian. We can make big changes to your dog’s behaviour with private video conferencing, video lessons, and video assessments. All you will need is a good internet connection to attend a video call.

It is preferable between lessons to be able to send in recorded videos of your progress. This can be done with any smart phone.

Distance learning can help with most dog training needs that we see in person. This includes dogs that are easily distracted, puppy training, toilet training, pulling on leash, barking, and many other issues.

Group & Topics Classes

Are you happy with your dog’s behaviour in your home but would love to see improvement in more distracting situations? Group classes allow you to learn and practice skills around distractions in a controlled environment while encouraging you to be consistent about training during the course period.

We also offer a variety of Topics Classes for those looking to have a little fun with their dogs or get help with that one issue you just can’t seem to work through on your own.
