Canine be Mine!

Have you had dogs in the past you have absolutely LOVED but you are more Netflix and popcorn and they were always ready to take on a triathlon? Or maybe your sisters’ herding breed is the cutest pup EVER and you really want one, but you don’t enjoy them nipping your kids’ ankles and rounding them up in the back yard? Do you love giant breeds and believe they are right for you but have beautiful decorative items around your home and an aversion to slobber?

Look, all puppies and dogs are cute. That is part of their charm! Don’t let that fool you into thinking they will all be suitable for your family regardless of their breed traits or individual personalities. Adding a dog to your family is a big commitment, and one that should last the lifetime of the dog. Taking the time to choose the right breed, mix or individual dog that fits into your lifestyle can prevent many of the most common behaviour issues that occur when we don’t understand the dog we are bringing into our home.

Think of Kitz & Canine as a matchmaking service for you and your next canine family member! You tell me what you are looking for, and I will use my extensive knowledge of dogs and their behaviour to provide you with a variety of options. I will even chaperone a few dates to keep you from falling in love at first sight and instead, truly discover the dog in front of you.

What will this service look like:

• An initial consult in your home or by Zoom where we dig into what your everyday life looks like as well as what you want and need from a canine family member.
• Once this information is gathered, it will allow me to research the pups that are available currently or in the near future, to find a good fit. I will then provide you with a list and contact information of each breeder or rescue. This will be completed within 2 weeks of the initial consultation. I will also research any breeder or rescue pups that you find on your own.
• Once you have made contact with the breeder or rescue to set up meet and greet appointments, I will happily join you to provide my educated opinion on each puppy or dog.*
• 10% off our Super Puppy Program OR 10% off a single session to help you and your new dog adjust to your new lives together.

Super Puppy

Did you know that what your puppy learns in the first 5 months can have a permanent effect on how they turn out as an adult dog? Let’s get it right with the Super Puppy program. Sleep easy at night knowing that your puppy isn’t destroying your carpet or belongings. Solve common issues like jumping and biting. And importantly, socialize your puppy the correct way so that you can shape them into a well-mannered and confident dog. 

Inclusions:

• 2 months of sessions.
• We only use and recommend the best training equipment. This program includes a puppy toy and treat pouch.
• Toilet training plan and journal so you can rest easy that your pup knows where to go potty, in the quickest time frame possible.
• Advice on feeding, routine care, appropriate toys, and how your puppy learns.
• Foundation behaviours to start your puppy on the path to becoming a wonderful family member.
• Puppy training manual to refer to the written step-by-step information any time you need it.
• Completion certificate & gift – at the end of the program you’ll want to celebrate your pup with a keepsake from us.

Foundations – The Basics

Does your dog have little to no prior training? Then this is the program for you! You might not need a dog who can fetch you a beer from the fridge, but every dog needs to know the basics to be a well-mannered family member. Life is just easier and more fun when your dog knows what you expect of them. If your dog is a good dog who just doesn’t listen, this program can get you started with basic training around the home.

Inclusions:

• Initial consultation
• 3 months of sessions.
• We only use and recommend the best training equipment. Examples would include an elevated bed, treat pouch, treats, etc.
• 4 basic cues of your choosing. Examples would be sit, down, stay, leave it, Take it, drop, off, go to place, etc.
• Training manual to refer to written step by step information any time you need it.
• Training journal – this will help you to keep track of your training time so we can see exactly where improvements are needed in between sessions.
• 6 months phone and email support – we are here for you!
• Completion certificate & gift – at the end of the program you’ll want to celebrate your dog’s progress with a keepsake from us.

The Fearful Dog

Does your dog startle easily to every day sights or sounds? Do they have a hard time with meeting new people or going new places? Running and hiding or barking and backing away? Do you wonder why they don’t seem to be more comfortable after repetitive exposure to new things? Then this is the program for you! Living with a fearful or anxious dog can be hard on both the guardian and the dog. Dogs with these issues must be treated with patience, care and understanding. This program will give you the tools to help them.

• 6 months of sessions.
• We only use and recommend the best training equipment. Examples would include an elevated bed, treat pouch, treats, harness and leash, gate, etc.
• Training manual to refer to written step by step information any time you need it.
• Training journal – this will help you to keep track of your training time so we can see exactly where improvements are needed in between sessions.
